COOP’08 Conference Announcement 8th International Conference on the Design of Cooperative Systems May 20-23, 2008 Carry-le-Rouet, Provence, France http://www.coop08.org

The conference aims at bringing together international researchers interested in the analysis, design and evaluation of cooperative systems, their integration in organizational, community, public and other settings, and their implications for policy and decision-making. Submissions are solicited from a wide range of disciplines: computer science (CSCW, HCI, Information Systems, Knowledge Engineering, Multi-agents,…), organizational and management sciences, sociology, psychology, anthropology, ergonomics, linguistics, etc. contributing to the fields of cooperative systems design and evaluation. Theoretical and conceptual contributions, empirical studies, and reports of experience are welcome on such topics as:

• Analysis of collaborative work situations (we would particularly welcome studies of

collaborative engineering and scientific domains);

• Conceptual frameworks for understanding cooperative work;
• Guidelines for designing cooperative systems;
• The influence of new technologies (mobile computing, ubiquitous computing, mixed reality and

ambient technology) on cooperative practices;

• Expertise sharing and learning in cooperative work;
• Communities and new forms of organization;
• Innovative technological solutions and user interfaces;
• Methods for participatory design of cooperative systems.
• New forms of Knowledge Engineering (e.g. Ontologies)
• Applications for, and studies of, social networking (including studies of the use of Wikis, Blogs

etc).

• Automation in collaborative environments

IT-infrastructures are used to support cooperation and collaboration in a wide range of sectors (ebusiness, e-government, health care, education, networking and community support, open source software development, etc.). Although many of these types of application are not explicitly designed as "cooperative systems", COOP'08 welcomes contributions describing concepts and experience in these fields.

Submission categories

COOP’08 welcomes four kind of contributions : regular papers, interactive posters, workshop proposals and doctoral colloquium contributions.

• Regular papers

Regular papers must be no more than 10 pages long including figures, references. Initial submission will be in the form of an extended abstract of no more than 4 pages. Authors will be allowed 30 minutes (about 20 minute talk with 10 minutes of questions) to present their work in a scheduled session with other regular papers

• Interactive posters

Posters must be no more than 2 pages long. They will be presented at the conference during an interactive session (5’ of presentation and 15’ of questions).

• Workshop proposals

Worshop proposals must include a description of the topic, the format of the workshop and the organization committee.

• Doctoral colloquium contributions

Doctoral colloquium contributions must be no more than 2 pages long. They will be presented at the conference during a special session. Authors are invited to submit papers in PDF format (RTF and DOC are also accepted). All paper submissions will be handled electronically with the ConfTool submission tool (see conference website for instructions (http://www.coop08.org).

Important dates

• December 7th, 2007: Deadline for papers and interactive posters submissions.
• January 18th, 2008: Notification of acceptance for all submissions
• January 18th, 2008: Deadline for workshop proposals
• February 15th, 2008: Deadline for doctoral contributions.
• February 8th, 2008: Camera ready copy of regular papers, interactive posters papers and workshops.
• April 18th , 2008: End of early registration.
• May 20th- 23th, 2008: COOP'08 Conference.
